Overdue boater missing near Sandy Hook, N.J., search underway

NEW YORK- A boater is missing in the vincinity of Sandy Hook, N.J., after he failed to return from a fishing trip around 9:30 p.m. yesterday.

Edward Lacz Sr., 65, was reported missing by his son. Lacz's vehicle and trailer were located at Sewaren Marina in Sewaren, N.J.

Two Coast Guard rescue boat crews were launched from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook, as well as a rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City. Additionally, a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Jones Beach is continuing to search offshore.

A New York City Police Department helicopter crew also assisted in the search.

Coast Guard cutters Tybee and Bainbridge Island, as well as a rescue jet crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod will conduct offshore searches throughout the day.
