Fisherman injured off Manasquan, N.J.

NEW YORK-A man was injured aboard a fishing boat after he was reportedly hit by fishing gear roughly 40 miles off Manasquan, N.J., at approximately 2 p.m., today.

The 38-year old man was reportedly struck by the fishing gear while working aboard the Challenger, a stern trawling fishing vessel.

The Endeavor, a Good Samaritan on scene, relayed information of the incident to the Coast Guard shortly after the incident happened.

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City was quickly deployed, and a 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook was diverted to the scene.

The injured fisherman was medevaced by the Coast Guard rescue helicopter to Nassau Trauma Center in New York.

This incident is under investigation.
