Coast Guard boating safety event

NEW YORK – The media is invited by the U.S. Coast Guard to talk about children’s boating safety in preparation for the up and coming boating season at Coast Guard Station Fire Island in Babylon, N.Y., April 29, 2009 at 11 a.m.

Approximately 175,000 children die in drowning related accidents worldwide per year, according to the World Health Organization. April 26 to May 3 is National Safe Kids Week which focuses on preventing childhood accidents.

WHAT:    Boat ride with unit personnel to talk about children’s boating safety

                 Babylon, N.Y. 11702

                 Just off Robert Moses Parkway

 

WHEN:    Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11 a.m.

 

Media will be able to get on a Coast Guard vessel with a crew who will demonstrate search and rescue practices, including man overboard drills, proper lifejacket use and how to prepare children for getting underway.
