Coast Guard to host open house in New Haven, Conn.

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound will host an open house event in New Haven, Conn., Sat. June 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public is invited to learn about a variety of Coast Guard search and rescue boats from Station New Haven, Aids to Navigation from Aids to Navigation Team Long Island, and rescue helicopters from Air Station Cape Cod.

“It should be a great time for the whole family,” said Capt. Daniel Ronan, Captain of the Port.  “It’s also a great opportunity to see how we and our partners work to protect the community and the environment,” he added.

Also at the open house:

  • Connecticut State Police, local police and fire department marine units will offer demonstrations of their boats.
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary and New Haven Power Squadrons will be available to discuss boating safety.
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary Paddle Smart kayak personnel will perform safe kayaking demonstrations and conduct kayak safety discussions.
  • Environmental awareness groups, such as the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, will be available to discuss environmental issues. 
  • Army Black Hawk Helicopter static display.
  • Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soda and a variety of baked goods will be for sale. 

 

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound is located at 120 Woodward Ave in New Haven. If you are driving from I-95 take exit 50.
