Coast Guard calls off search for missing plane near Groton, Conn.

NEW YORKThe Coast Guard has recalled rescue crews in search of a missing plane near Groton, Conn., today.

The single engine Mooney airplane that had dropped from communications and radar near Niantic, Conn., reappeared near Atlantic City, N.J., at around 12:45 p.m.

It is unknown what caused the lapse of communication.

Earlier A representative from T.F. Green Airport in Warwick, R.I., called the Coast Guard First District Command Center in Boston after the airport lost communication and radar signal roughly four miles west of Groton, at about 11:30 a.m.

It is not known how many people are onboard the plane.

Rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station New London, Conn., and an aircrew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., were sent to search plane’s last known location.

The plane left Plymouth, Mass., and was en route to Ocean City, N.J., when the incident occurred.
