Search continues for missing swimmer near Rockaways

NEW YORK – The search continues for a swimmer who went missing near Riis Beach in the Rockaways around 8 p.m. yesterday. 

Anthony Bolden, 21, is missing after entering the water to help his friend who was struggling in the surf. His friend managed to make it to shore and called 911 after Bolden did not resurface.

A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook rescue boat crew searched throughout the night and was relieved by a Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City helicopter crew at 7:30 a.m. today. Station Sandy Hook boat crews will resume the search around 10 a.m.

The New York City Police Department also has surface assets on scene.

Weather on scene was reported as four-foot seas and nine-mile-per-hour winds at the time of the incident.

**NOTE: The age of the missing man was originally reported as 34 and has since been confirmed as 21.
