Coast Guard searching for missing man near Far Rockaway Intlet

NEW YORK – The U.S. Coast Guard is currently searching for a 40-year old man who went missing off  Beach 15th Street in Far Rockaway, Queens at approximately 3:30 a.m. this morning.

The Coast Guard received a report form Citywide of a person in the water inside Rockaway Inlet. The reporting source stated a small group of people were swimming in waist high water off 15th Street when one person did not return to the shore.

Coast Guard Sector New York and Sector Long Island Sound are both currently responding with rescue boat crews from Station Jones Beach and Station New York, as well as a rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J.

Additionally, the Coast Guard plans to a launch rescue boat crew from Station Sandy Hook, N.J. and second rescue helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., to assist in the search.
