Coast Guard responds to gasoline spill in West Haven

NEW YORK – Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound is responding to a gasoline spill which was reported late Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in West Haven, Conn.

The Coast Guard is assisting the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) with the spill, which is estimated at approximately 5,000 gallons.

The leak reportedly came from the Wishert Mobile facility in West Haven through a source not yet identified. The gas station is geographically located close to a marsh, but there is no indication that the gasoline spill affected the marsh or adjoining waterways.

The Coast Guard responded with pollution investigators to assist DEP, and is monitoring the situation for further developments.

The responsible party has taken financial responsibility for the spill and is making efforts to clean the affected area.

The Wishert Mobile facility will remain closed until the cleanup is complete.
