Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento hosts memorial service
for HC-130 1705 aircrew

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento is hosting a memorial service for the aircrew of Coast Guard HC-130 1705 Friday at 11 a.m.

The crew of the Air Station Sacramento C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft was assisting with a search and rescue operation near San Clemente Island, Calif., Thursday evening. During the search, the Coast Guard aircraft and a Marine Corps AH-1W helicopter collided.

An extensive search was conducted by the Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Corps, and Customs Border Protection Air/Marine Branch for several days following the accident. The search was suspended Sunday morning, and no survivors were found.

The ceremony will not be open to the public; however, there will be a live webcast of the ceremony. The web address will be provided separately before the ceremony. Anyone who would like to make a donation to the families of the missing Coast Guard aircrew can do so with the Coast Guard Foundation at CoastGuardFoundation.org or by calling 860-535-0786.

Media will be invited to attend the ceremony but will be expected to adhere to ground rules set in place to minimize their impact to families and grieving Coast Guardsmen. Media interested in attending the memorial service must R.S.V.P. with the Air Station Sacramento Information Center at 916-643-7654 no later than Thursday at 4 p.m. Media will not be admitted to the memorial service without responding because of the sensitive nature of the ceremony. Ground rules for the event can be obtained here, but each member of the media will be given a full briefing of the rules the day of the ceremony.

Please see the media timeline below -

10:15 a.m. – Media are asked to arrive on time for access to the Air Station and escorted on board.

10:30 a.m. – No media will be admitted to the base after this time.
