Feb. 28, 2010

MONTAUK, N.Y.--Coast Guard Capt. Daniel Ronan, Sector Long Island Sound Captain of the Port, talks to reporters before taking New York Congressman Timothy Bishop underway on a 47-foot motor life boat near Montauk, N.Y., Feb. 28, 2010. Station Montauk recently received a second 47-foot motor life boat as part of an initiative to enable each station on Long Island to support search and rescue operations throughout the increased heavy weather during the winter months. “This has been a great opportunity to have Congressman Bishop out at station Montauk. He has been a great supporter of the Coast Guard and we wanted to take the opportunity to show him our second 47-foot motor life boat, which enables Station Montauk to be much more resilient in responding to search and rescue cases,” said Coast Guard Capt. Daniel Ronan, Captain of the Port of Long Island Sound. “It also enables the station to better and more quickly train and develop additional heavy weather coxswains to support the people out here on the east end of Long Island.” U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Annie R.
