Media invited to attend Wounded Warrior boat ride with U.S. Coast Guard

NEW YORK – The media are invited to tour New York Harbor with Wounded Warriors, the American Veterans (AMVETS) and Coast Guard Station New York servicemembers from Staten Island, N.Y., Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

WHO: Wounded Warriors, the U.S. Coast Guard and AMVETS

WHAT: Boat ride to Statue of Liberty, North Cove Marina in New York Harbor

WHERE: Coast Guard Station New York

                 10 Search Lane

                 Staten Island, N.Y. 10305

WHEN: 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Media should arrive no later than 10 a.m. the day of the event. The media will return to Staten Island after the boat ride.

“Station New York is supporting the Staten Island Welcomes Our Heroes Weekend as a thank you for their service to our country,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Jesus Vazquez, Coast Guard Station New York’s acting operations officer. “It’s our way of giving back to these brave men and women who served to preserve our freedom.”

The Wounded Warrior Project provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life, according to their website. The mission is to honor and empower servicemembers returning from combat overseas.

This is the second year that Station New York has supported the event.

The boat ride will be followed by a lunch at the Coast Guard station.
