SHINNECOCK, New York – Coast Guard Station Shinnecock, located in Hampton Bays, New York, will hold an open house on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The public will have an opportunity to tour a Coast Guard 47-foot motor life boat, a Coast Guard fast response boat, a Coast Guard Auxiliary vessel, see a buoy being released and retrieved, and take a tour of the station’s communication and aids to navigation centers.
There will also be free seminars by the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, life jacket and boating safety demonstrations by Coast Guard personnel, and free vessel safety inspections for both trailered and docked vessels. Mariners approaching by water should contact Coast Guard Station Shinnecock on VHF 22 prior to entering the local boat basin.
The Riverhead Marine Foundation is scheduled to release a seal pup from the station at 1030.
Light refreshments will be served.
